Second Quarter with Record Turnover
After a slow start in 2016, the Leipzig logistics and warehouse premises market has been gathering momentum. This has produced the third-best half-year performance ever registered, with take-up of to 145,000 m². That was 36,000 m² more than in the prior-year period, a rise of over 33 %. This result was due primarily to the strong performance in the second quarter. It accounted for take-up of about 124,000 m², the biggest volume ever in any three-month period in the Leipzig market. It exceeds the record previously set as recently as the fourth quarter of 2015, which highlights the impressive scale of market dynamism. The weighty turnover was fuelled on the one hand by broadly based demand in the small-unit size segment, and on the other hand by deals upwards of 12,000 m², which really boosted the overall result. Because of the lack of space in Leipzig's core area, several logistics firms and manufacturers have been opting for large complexes in the outer periphery, which is where 78 % of take-up was generated. In contrast, in the particularly preferred locations – core area, freight village and the vicinity of the BMW works – it is virtually impossible to meet the existing demand.
